Computers

Interested in computers? This program is for you! With access to 4 computer labs in Rockland Community College's computer lab, campers have access to all types of technology.

Campers who love using computers will learn about new programs and work on digital projects, programming, 3D animation, and video game development. Campers will have opportunities to put their skills to the test with hand-on-projects.

There is no prerequisite computer knowledge needed for this program. All campers are welcome!

Younger Group
  (Entering grades 2, 3, 4, and 5)
Week 1
June 30 - July 3

The Sky's the Limit: Aeronautical Engineering
Kids dive into aeronautical engineering by designing models of flying technologies that help NASA collect aerial photographs. Kids will learn that scientist and engineers often study harsh environment here on Earth (like the largest sand desert in the world, the Empty Quarter) to understand the environments they might encounter in space.

 Week 2
July 7 - 11
Google Week: Computer Engineering
Kids will have a chance to work with the different arears in google. From documents, spreadsheets and forms this should be filled with google fun
 Week 3
July 14 - 18
To the Rescue: Engineering Aid Drop Packages: Package Engineering
Kids are asked to engineer aid drop packages that protect what's inside and are easy to find once they reach the ground.
 Week 4
July 21 - 25
Coding Week: Become a Computer Programmer: Computer Programming
A week of basic computer programming. Going beyond the hour code, from Flappy Bird to creating Computer Art. Kids will problem solve and think critically to create simple computer programs. to create simple computer programs.
 Week 5
July 29 - Aug 1

Shake Things Up: Engineering Earthquake Resistant Buildings: Earthquake Engineering

Kids learn about bracing and other ways to support buildings during earthquakes. Kids are asked to engineer earthquake resistant buildings, and create a list of building codes to help others build earthquakes resistant structurers.

 Week 6
Aug 4 - 8
Go Green: Engineering Recycled Racers: Green Engineering

Items that would ordinarily be discarded are collected and used to create toys, Sculptures and household objects. In this green engineering unit, kids use recycled materials to construct a toy car that competes in the Recycled Racer Rally.
